Adobe for Women was a non-profit humanitarian association founded in January 2011.
It was based on three fundamental pillars: Construction, Sustainability and Empowerment. It seeked to build sustainably for those in need and at the same time promote the use of tradicional construction techniques.
The goal was to build 20 sustainable houses in the indigenous village of San Juan Mixtepec, in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca.
The houses were for 20 women in difficult circumstances who participated in the building process. They slowly appropriated their future home and simultaneously have found their self-esteem, work abilities and hope that transformed the spaces into safe, caring places for their families.
The houses were energy efficient and built with local materials such as adobe and bamboo.
Each house cost only 3 830,84€ (the price of half a square meter in Paris or Amsterdam or a square meter in the Baltic capitals).
With great joy, in 2016 the association accomplished the proposed goals of building 20 houses for these 20 women.
